Northern Vietnam is still an ideal destination for low-cost travelers who do not have a big budget for their travel. The text about northern Vietnam was immediately pressed in other Vietnamese media (VNExpress, Vietnam Breaking News, etc.). The article states about mostly beautiful mountain sceneries, ethnic groups, low prices for food and accommodation, and also that a large part of northern Vietnam is overlooked by travelers.

Prices in northern Vietnam are generally very low, but it depends where.


In an article on Forbes mainly provides low prices, eg. food $ 0.5-2 and accommodation in the private rooms from $ 10 to 15 /night at the hostel around $ 5. With this you can almost agree, but the food in tourist places (sometimes non-tourist places) is even higher. E.g. price for lunch $ 3-5 is no exception, somewhere on non-tourist places. Lunch can be enjoyed at tourist spots, you can spend also for eat about $ 20. But mostly low-cost travelers do not go to this tourist spots.

When you can, choose to travel on a motorcycle in northern Vietnam. Even this is often mentioned. To rent a motorbike/scooter is relatively cheap and ranges from $ 7-10 /1 day. If you can ride a motorcycle, rent it for a longer period, then the prices are significantly lower. E.g. rent a cheap motorbike to one month can also arrange under $ 100. It is good to say, some official and certified rentals require a refundable advances, somewhere eg. $ 1,000.

How much does it cost to travel in Vietnam?


Vietnam is very suitable for the low-cost travelers – cheap transportation, accommodation and food. But you can also enjoy the luxury in Vietnam, if you want it. But only at the tourist sites, mostly beach resorts. It is very good to go in Vietnam from another country in Southeast Asia, if you are already there. Flights are really very cheap from the neighboring countries.

The prices when traveling for 1 month, a combination motorbike/bus:


Visa to Vietnam for one month – $ 25 (online e-visa, single entry, new from February 1, 2017,  without the invitation letter)
– Travel insurance – about $ 30-40
– Flight ticket – it depends from where are you going…
– Food for one day – about $ 5-7 (breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks – eating on the street)
Accommodation in a guesthouse (1 night), room for 2 persons of average quality (Cheap hotel) – $ 10-15
– Rent a motorbike for 1 day – from $ 7-13
– when you rent a motorbike for a longer period, prices are very low (e.g. for 1 month about $ 100)
– Petrol for motorcycles / 1 day – about $ 4
Transport with a local bus (non tourist) – about $ 3/100 km
– Transport with a train (non tourist) – about $ 2-3/100 km
– Taxi: about 10 000-15 000 / 1 km
– Entrances to the monuments or to the villages / 1 day – about $ 5 (depends on the attractiveness of the site)
