Hi, my name is Milan and I’m the founder of this travel website about northern Vietnam. I come from the Czech Republic and have spent a lot of time exploring the remote and authentic regions of northern Vietnam. The stunning nature, mountains, and ethnic minorities truly inspired me to share this journey with other travelers. I launched this website in 2015 and I regularly update and keep it running.
This website was born from my own personal experiences. I traveled extensively across places like Ha Giang👍, Sapa, Hanoi, Ha Long, Cao Bang, Ninh Binh, Cat Ba, Mai Chau, Son La, Lai Chau, Moc Chau, Mu Cang Chai and others. My goal is to provide up-to-date and honest travel tips that help independent travelers like you to discover the beauty of this region. In addition to Vietnam, I also visited Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore and Borneo.
I’m not affiliated with any travel agency — everything you read here about northern Vietnam is based on real experience. I regularly update the website with new routes, travel tips, transportation guides, and destination tips.
You will also find information about central and southern Vietnam, as well as countries like Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand, where travelers from Vietnam like to go. You can also follow our Facebook page for updates and news or you can also check Pinterest profile.
This project is built with passion, and I hope it inspires you to explore the amazing north of Vietnam. Do you have a question? You can write to me at severni-vietnam[at]seznam.cz, or you can leave me a message on the Facebook page.
Thank you for visiting and supporting this website ❤️
👉 10 tips based on my own experience:
-
-
If possible, travel independently — for example, by motorbike, bus, or train.
-
Set aside at least one month to explore Northern Vietnam properly.
-
Vietnam often feels most authentic in its remote and less-visited regions.
-
Don’t limit your trip to just the three most popular places like Ha Long, Hanoi, and Sapa.
-
Don’t overpack — many things can be purchased locally if needed.
-
Visit ethnic markets in the north and engage with local minority communities.
-
Make sure you have travel insurance and at least basic vaccinations, especially for rabies.
-
Bring warmer clothing for mountain areas — the weather can change quickly.
-
My favorite places: Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Ninh Binh, Moc Chau, Mu Cang Chai.
-
Always carry some cash in Vietnamese dong — not all places accept cards.
