Between Bangkok – Phnom Penh and Ho Chi Minh City, there are various seater or sleeper buses or comfortable minivans and minibuses of various companies. Some of the companies operating buses to Phnom Penh are Virak Buntham, Thero Express, Giant Ibis, Saly Express, Travel Mart or Go Ho Travel.

It is an ideal option if you also want to visit the capital of Cambodia – Phnom Penh. The first step will be to travel by bus or minivan from Bangkok to Phnom Penh via the Poi Pet border crossing. This route takes approximately 12-14 hours by bus and bus tickets cost an average of $25-37/pp.

You will be crossing borders, so find out in advance what the current information is about Cambodia visas. 2. BUS / VAN from Bangkok to Hanoi (via Laos)

Another popular overland transport option is the bus trip from Bangkok to Hanoi in northern Vietnam, via Vientiane in Laos. Vientiane is the capital of Laos and also an interesting place to visit, so it is an ideal option for those who want to visit even a little bit of Laos. However, expect a long drive.

Between Bangkok – Vientiane – Hanoi there are buses of various companies, most of these buses are sleeper. The first step will be to travel by bus from Bangkok to Vientiane. There are buses from companies such as Air Udon (Sombat), Naga Travel, Tara Tour and Travel or Transport Co and the journey time is approximately 15-19 hours.

Bus tickets from Bangkok cost around $20-37/pp and you can again search and book them online even in advance. Buses depart mainly from Mochit or Khao San stations in Bangkok. Find out in advance what the visa requirements are for Laos to avoid any complications. Sometimes this information is given when ordering bus tickets, so read everything carefully. There are also a number of direct flights from Bangkok to Vietnam. These direct flights can sometimes be very good value for money and will give you the fastest transfer between Thailand and Vietnam. Another option to quickly get to Hanoi in northern Vietnam is again a direct flight from Bangkok. C) DIRECT FLIGHT from Bangkok to Da Nang

If you want to travel quickly and comfortably from Thailand to Central Vietnam, then a direct flight from Bangkok to Da Nang is your best and fastest choice. Da Nang is the largest city in central Vietnam and is popular among foreign tourists from all over the world. Nha Trang and Cam Ranh area is a popular beach area in central Vietnam and many tourists will definitely not miss this place when they visit this area.

The flight schedule of direct air connections is limited and these flights are offered by the airline Thai AirAsia, the flight time is up to 2 hours and the ticket prices are in the range of $60-120/pp. Flights are operated from Don Mueang Airport to Cam Ranh Airport.

Cam Ranh Airport is the main airport for the Nha Trang area and is located approximately 40 km south of Nha Trang city.  There are shuttle buses or other private transfers to the city from Cam Ranh Airport, or it is also possible to travel by Vietnam Railways train from Cam Ranh town.

4. TRAIN + BUS from Bangkok to Vietnam

There is no direct train connection from Bangkok to Vietnam, to Ho Chi Minh City, but traveling by train is also possible, combined with a bus. This transportation option has a total of 3 steps: by train from Bangkok to Aranyaprathet (Poi Pet border crossing), by Royal Railway train from Poi Pet to Phnom Penh, and the last step is by bus from Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh City.

The Thai 3rd class seat train from Bangkok to Aranyaprathet departs from Hua Lamphong Station and arrives at Aranyaprathet Station. Tickets for this Thai train are best purchased at the train station in Bangkok. Aranyaprathet train station is a short distance from the border with Cambodia, from the Poi Pet border crossing and from Poi Pet you will then continue on another Cambodian Royal Railway train to Phnom Penh.

Poi Pet Train Station is just 1 km from the border crossing. Royal Raiwlay train travel time from Poi Pet to the capital Phnom Penh is approx. 11-12 hours and tickets cost approx. $6-10/pp. Trains in Cambodia are seat only and tend to be a bit slower. The third step is to travel by bus or minibus from Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh City.

It’s a busy route and there are plenty of buses between these cities. Traveling by bus from Phnom Penh to Saigon takes approximately 5.5-7 hours and bus tickets cost approximately $23-40/pp. In the future, there are some plans to connect Phnom Penh and Ho Chi Minh City by rail, which could possibly make travel easier.
